welcome to phattire.net

My name is Mike O'Hara. I'm a NYC freelance photographer & urban cyclist. The images you'll find here are predominantly of an abandoned / decaying genre. Although the scope of my work is broad, you'll find its roots deeply tangled in the urban environment, cycling and fragments of abandonment.

about my work

My work is focused on urban-based life; what it creates and what it leaves behind. Surrounded by New York's intrinsic beauty, I am drawn to the visual history I see both on the street and in dilapidated and forgotten locations.

In 2002 I began seriously shooting urban scenes. I quickly realized that people themselves would not be my subject, but rather the places where they lived and worked. I enjoy exposing places most people would consider run-down or abandoned.

While the absence of people is my subject, when I’m working, I enjoy the remnants and evidence of people’s interaction with the deserted spaces. Worn objects, graffiti and general obsolescence of items are the focal point.
